Day 1: Arrival - Catania
Arrival at Catania airport and drive to the booked hotel in the Syracuse area. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Excursion to Syracuse
After breakfast, visit the beautifully located former Greek city of Siracusa. It also includes the Ortigia peninsula, the so-called "quail island" and the actual old town, which is connected to the mainland by a bridge. During an extended walk you can see the Arethusa source and the former Athena temple, which was turned into a cathedral. The Greek theater and the Roman amphitheater in the archaeological park testify to the cultural heyday. The museum, the catacombs and the Castello Eurialo end an eventful day. Day 3: Piazza Armerina - Agrigento
Drive to Piazza Armerina where you will find the Roman Villa del Casale, another UNESCO World Heritage, which was opened to the public in 2014 in a new look. A visit to the Villa Casale will delight you with the floors of the 40 rooms, with very well-preserved mosaics covering a total area of around 3,000 square meters.
Continue to Agrigento, which Pindar described as "the most beautiful city of the mortals".
UNESCO declared the archaeological sites of Agrigento a World Heritage Site in 1997 on the grounds that "Akragas" was one of the largest ancient cities in the Mediterranean and was preserved in an exceptionally good condition. Its grand array of Doric temples includes outstanding monuments of Greek art and culture. Visit to the mythical valley of the temples. On request, the archaeological museum, the San Nicola church, the Ekklesia or afterwards the Via Athenea can be visited. Dinner and overnight in Agrigento.
